Today's Wolnica Square in Kazimierz in Krakow is a former part of the Kazimierz market. The name came from Latin - forum liberum, which means free trade law.
Plac Wolnica was formerly part of the Kazimierz market. In the past, it resembled the Main Market Square in size and served a similar function - it was here that trade took place. There was also a town hall on the square, where the highest administrative and judicial authorities of the city of Kazimierz had their seat. Its construction began in 1414, but since then it has been rebuilt many times, and when Kazimierz lost its city status - the building was gradually reduced.
Currently, little remains of the original shape of the building, but the old walls and historical paintings can be seen inside, in the Ethnographic Museum.
